Since 1995, students have been challenged in both character and team building, as well as problem solving through our MAX Program (Maximum Adventure eXperience),with group cooperatives, including low ropes initiatives, a high ropes course and zip line, “Tall Tree” climb, and new climbing tower "Goliath the Giant". We use experiential education to allow students to be challenged out of their comfort zone, to experience nature, using perceived risk activities and cooperatives in order to increase knowledge, develop new skills and clarify values. These are activities which help students grow in the areas of motor, social, cognitive, and affective skills. These are building blocks of personal growth and leadership development. The unique aspect of the Five Pines’ MAX program is that the outdoors is used as a classroom, and fun is combined with challenge learning. The ultimate goal of the MAX program is to provide a safe, hands-on learning environment that focuses on giving students an opportunity for personal growth by developing trust, increasing self-esteem/self-worth, establishing goals, improving communication, respecting differences, resolving conflict, and solving problems. The core of the program is in kids processing their experience through small group discussions which reinforce the group’s goals and objectives. Our trained staff members allow students to learn from that moment, each other, and themselves.
