Adventure Programs

DSC 0965 2 trolley 7 and 8th 800x536The MAX (Maximum Adventure eXperience) experiential education program utilizes a series of activities designed for human development and enrichment through hands-on experience and challenge. Participants will experience team-building initiatives, low ropes course, the tall tree climb, and the high ropes course, all within a safe atmosphere of learning and discovery.

Experiential Education

At Five Pines we use experiential education to allow students to be challenged out of their comfort zone, to experience nature, using perceived risk activities and cooperatives, in order to increase knowledge, develop new skills and clarify values. These are activities which help students grow in the areas of motor, social, cognitive, personal growth and leadership development.

Highlights of MAX Program

  • A well-balanced schedule which is customized to meet school curriculum or specific objectives.
  • Over 20,000 kids have participated in the program since 1995, from 42 schools with over 1,600 students experiencing MAX annually.
  • Program designed to increase knowledge, develop new skills and clarify values through challenge-based learning.
  • Target group is 5th to 12th grade students.
  • Certified course to meet Association of Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) standards.
  • Certified trained staff, with experience in teambuilding facilitation, all aspects of operating a challenge course, and skilled in processing.

MAX Objectives

To provide an environment which uses experiential education to increase knowledge, develop new skills, and clarify values.

To use perceived risk activities with "your challenge, your choice" philosophy to allow kids to step out of their comfort zone to increase self and group discovery.

To use challenge based learning to encourage positive behaviors and outcomes which enhance the growth of leadership development.

SAFETY FRIST

Safety is our number one priority. Maintaining a safe outdoor adventure program, we must adhere to strict technical training to be certified facilitators, have our course/elements inspected annually by an independent organization to meet all Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) standards, and have equipment/course inspected before and after each use.

MAX TOOLS

1. Full Value Contract: This signed agreement is designed to govern group behaviors, encourage positive outcomes, and ensure a safe environment for individual and group discovery.
2. Your Challenge Your Choice: This is our philosophy of giving ownership of the experiential experience to our guests, which allows them the right to control what they will or will not participate in. We encourage participants to go beyond their assumed boundaries, which maximizes their growth potential.
3. MAX Evaluation & Follow-Up: Each teacher, chaperone, or para-professional has the opportunity to fill out an evaluation form throughout the day. This form tracks progress made, gives input to our program, and records reactions to individual elements/cooperatives, which gives everyone a greater understanding of the impact of the day. Follow-up is facilitated by a report to the principal or group contact. This report gives an overview of the effectiveness of our program and includes individual MAX evaluations.
